Simple always wins
At least that’s how Paul Graham, one of today’s most admired investors and founder of startup accelerator Y Combinator (Airbnb, DoorDash, Stripe, Dropbox, etc.) sees it. He wrote a very short essay on the subject in March of this year which immediately resonated with me. Check it out on his endearingly spartan blog. The opening paragraphs alone are worth taking to heart for anyone who has to communicate effectively - so pretty much all of us:
I try to write using ordinary words and simple sentences.
That kind of writing is easier to read, and the easier something is to read, the more deeply readers will engage with it. The less energy they expend on your prose, the more they'll have left for your ideas.
And the further they'll read.
…plenty more good stuff follows. Enjoy!
